Prosthodontics

Crown:

A crown is a prosthetic tooth fabricated with ceramic or metal that covers a decayed or fractured tooth. It helps reestablish adequate masticatory function and esthetics while protecting the underlying natural tooth structure.

Bridge:

A bridge is a fixed dental restoration that replaces one or two missing teeth by ‘’bridging’’ the gap between two teeth. It usually consists of an artificial tooth joined to two dental crowns.

When preparing for a bridge, the adjacent teeth to the edentulous gap need to be prepped in order to receive and support the bridge. Most bridges are all-ceramic or ceramic-fused-to-metal which allows for great esthetics and durability.

As an alternative to the bridge, it is possible to place a dental implant. An implant replaces a missing tooth without having to prepare the adjacent teeth. It also allows easier cleaning around the prosthesis.
